African Heritage Appreciation Day

For Black History Month, we hosted an "African Prints & Patterns Sunday" — a vibrant celebration where invited everyone to to wear African prints, kente, Ankara, dashiki, gele, and other traditional African-inspired attire. Our members showed up and showed out! What a privilege it is to gather in fellowship as a caring community, to honor African and African American heritage, and to thoughtfully connect our faith to a rich, enduring cultural legacy.

Why it matters:

  • Honors the roots and resilience of the Black community through visible, joyful cultural expression.

  • Deepens congregational identity by linking biblical faith with cultural heritage.

  • Creates an accessible, family-friendly celebration that strengthens our bonds.

  • Provides an opportunity for intergenerational learning and storytelling about African history and its influence on Black American history and faith

Let us continue to joyfully celebrate Black History and the God who lovingly made each of us into who we are today! Happy Black History Month!
